This is a very new tour to take you to the wild, where very few tourists could set foot to adventure! A great value family adventure to explore some of the more off the beaten track reserves and parks. You will have the opportunity to see lemurs, chameleons and plenty of birdlife as well as visiting small towns and communities where you will get a chance to experience real Malagasy life before ending up at the pirate island of Sainte Marie on the Indian Ocean with its clear waters, white sands, safe beaches and whale watching.

Day by day

Arrival at Antananarivo

Tongasoa! Welcome! How was your international flight? You are now in Antananarivo, the Capital city! Our bureau's team will be at the airport to welcome you from your international flight. Already now is the time for selfie lovers to take beautiful shots! Our Adventure Holiday tour will begin in Antananarivo, where we will depart by car, but before catching a hotel we will visit in the Ivato crocodile farm, also called “Croc Farm”. Spanning three hectares, this lush green oasis is ideal for you to relax, as we know that having an international flight is tiring.

From the “Croc Farm” we will transfer you to your hotel, where you will stay overnight. Time to settle a bit. Get refreshed. In the evening after dinner, over cocktails we discuss our program. From the first day to the last day our experienced and professional guide and the driver will be next to you, so don’t worry about it, they are near to make sure you have everything you need. We are leaving tomorrow.

Antananarivo – Andasibe

During the course of the morning you travel to Tsarasaotra which means bird‘s island, a small green oasis in the north of the city. The park is a refuge for many birds that can be easily watched and photographed here – among them 14 endangered species that only occur in Madagascar.

After visiting Tsarasaotra Park, we will drive along a scenic road to Andasibe, base for discovering the Mantadia National Park, a journey of about 4 hours. Here the adventure really starts. You will notice that the landscape changes. The road in comparison to many Malagasy roads is in excellent condition but with many uphills/downhills, many curves. In general, it is a beautiful landscape, composed of small villages, rice paddies, tropical plants and forest.

En-route we will stop at a farm specializing in Madagascan reptiles and butterflies, before arriving at our lodge. You visit the exotic farming centre of Mr. Pereyras, Marozevo, where you will see chameleon species of Madagascar, butterflies, lizards, snakes and other interesting animals.

We arrive just after noon in time to stroll around the private reserve – Lemur island with the opportunity to get close to lemurs as they are known to jump on your shoulder to get a closer look!

Night tour. Soon after sunset, we’ll make another brief visit to the edges of the Analamazaotra Special Reserve to admire some of small nocturnal creatures at work, hoping to observe the night “mouse lemur” Microcebus, the smallest of all the lemurs;

Analamazaotra Reserve and Mantadia NP

Early in the morning you'll wake up in the Mantadia NP to the characteristic cry of the indri. The sound carries for kilometers, and is intended to delineate their territory. Sometimes you hear ten different families, some distant, others nearby.

We just after early breakfast, take an half day trip to visit the reserve of indri or, better known as the Analamazaotra Special Reserve, during which, you will certainly start to see the various species, including the indri, is the largest of the species of lemurs. You’ll see them jumping from tree to tree with incredible agility despite their size and above all, you’ll hear them scream. Our guides help you to find the indri and almost always they'll find a family of them. Also 'Woolly Lemurs' and 'Brown Lemurs' are frequently seen. Furthermore there are chameleons, various very special frogs and many species of birds including coua's. The tour will largely be along well-trodden paths, but to see lemurs you will occasionally need to leave the path and embark on a little scrambling and climbing.

In the afternoon, we will head off on the next part of the adventure. We’ll spend the time visiting the great park of Mantadia, few kilometers north of where we are staying. We will do a circuit of about 4 hours, to meet groups of lemurs as the indri, the diadem sifaka and the bamboo lemur. This circuit is also very spectacular for its landscapes we’ll see waterfalls and rivers surrounded by strikingly beautiful tropical plants. The path is pretty good, but with some hills.

In the evening, if you want, we can organize another night walk in the forest to see nocturnal wildlife.

Andasibe – Lake Alaotra (Bandro Park)

Before breakfast, just a snacking, we will pay a visit to the lovely private reserve of Vakona lodge known as the "Island of lemurs" to take part in their feeding and to meet some of the friendliest primates of the island. You'll be keen to experience this unique activity! The lemurs - brown, ruffled, dancing, lemurs galore - they will want our bananas and they will willing to do whatever it took to get them. Including jumping on our heads, shoulders, arms, and gouging our eyes out. Get ready! - many lemurs will be intent on boarding a canoe! Lemurs pirates!

After a leisurely breakfast we leave the rain forest of Andasibe and continue for about 5 hours to the small village of Andreba - the point at which we join Lake Alaotra and the Camp Bandro.

Don’t worry, be happy. Yeah! Don’t worry about your accommodations, we made everything ready for you to enjoy. What do we mean? Well, get settle. We’ll take care of dinner which will be served at your Camp, where you will stay overnight.

Camp Bandro is a tourist facility outside the village of Andreba and close to the shores of Lake Alaotra. It consists of typical Sihanaka houses for accommodation, a separate kitchen and an eating place, showers, a toilet as well as a house for the guardian.

Lake Alaotra and Bandro Park

An early start at 6.30 am is called for, either breakfast first or a 2 hour canoe trip to see the local endemic of Lake Alaotra the Bamboo Lemur locally called Bandro and many water birds species, and breakfast on your return.

After, a trained local guide take us on a discovery tour in a pirogue. On the lake and in the reed and papyrus marshes in the Bandro Park, you can observe the rich variety of birds and, with a little luck, even the Bandro themselves!

In the afternoon we drive by car make to visit Imerimandroso - is an old village with typical Merina architecture, perched on a rocky promontory. A panoramic view offers a whole view of the lake and even of the sacred islet at the northern part of the lake where Sihanaka resisted a Merina attack. One can also see the “Vohitrandriana” stone, a traditional place of worship, where foreigner visitors are tolerated if the oracles permit it. On the boundary to the Eastern rainforest, there are the Sandratsio waterfalls. A panoramic point called “Le Belvédère du Marotsipy" (300 m high) offers us a nice view to the Anosimboangy region, known for its precious stones sought. On the way back, at the “station agricole” (agricultural station, 18 km to the north) we learn all about crops. A collection of hundreds of varieties of rice and several varieties of sugar cane and tobacco is represented here.

Hiking in the Zahamena National Park (D1)

Early morning we drive to Antanandava, which is the entrance of the Zahamena National Park, where we meet the local guide, a cook and porters.

Start of the visit Zahamena National Park: This one of the most beautiful parks of Madagascar because of its biclimate both maritime and terrestrial, it’s the reason why the Zahamena Park has been classified World Heritage of Humanity. There is an incomparable floristic and faunal diversity with an endemism rate of almost 100%. Indeed, there are nearly 112 species of birds, some very rare. But we will also find many lemurs, bats, reptiles and butterflies always more colorful than the others. There is an exceptional vegetation where you won’t risk to miss numerous plants which cover the forests: orchids, epiphytes, and other carnivorous plants.

The site is protected and local populations are fighting to preserve and to value this site so dear to the Malagasy. The Zahamena Park will make you discover all the beauty of the forests of the East of Madagascar.

Hiking in the Zahamena National Park (D2)

We will woke up to a crimson dawn and the calls of a lemur troupe somewhere in the forest. It a beautiful way to start the day. Excited! Breakfast and we start into the forest as the calls of Indri-Indri will sound off in the distance.

Today, we will trek to the natural swimming pool of Bemoara under the waterfall. Another treasure this fabulous park has to offer. During our camping, you’ll be able to refresh in this nice natural swimming pool with the paces of refreshing oasis.

This camp will very picturesque with an incredible view over the Alaotra Lake. A small creek run beside the camp, giving us entertainment. The creek is home for all sorts of aquatic and not so aquatic creatures of which none could be seen until dark. This night, we will went in search of night creatures, including the mythical Fossa, attack lemurs, and the Aye-Aye lemurs. Maybe our will be lucky enough to see it…Tyto Soumagnei: the rare bird. This owl-like bird is an extremely rare nocturnal predator. This is why it’s a protected species. It’s found only in the forests of eastern Madagascar.

Hiking in the Zahamena National Park (D3)

We will got up around six. It will going to be an easy walk today. From Bemoara, we start the trek to the primary forest of the Zahamena. It is still a very little-known area, and naturalists are currently carrying out surveys to improve the scientific knowledge of the biodiversity found here.

We will see the real wildlife of Madagascar. Through this site you will able to capture the true beauty of this wonderful biome and ecosystem. You will learn about the different kinds of animals and factors in the Zahamena National Park, along with the plants. Zahamena is a beautiful national park and it is full of adventure.

The camping site will depend of where we'll see the nest of the Aye Aye.

Overnight in camp in the forest.

Zahamena NP - Lake Alaotra (Bandro Park)

A hike’s end. Last breakfast at the camp, while contemplating the sunrise. Today we will go back to the Bemoara. Then we will take some time to walk and reach the entrance of the Park and drive to Andreba village.

We can organize extension of the visit of the Zahamena National Park. Please, e-mail us for the detailed circuit which includes several days of hikes within the National Park until Vavatenina where we will by drive a 4WD to Soanierana Ivongo to join the speed boat to Sainte Marie Island.

Lunch – picnic, dinner and overnight at the Camp Bandro.

Lake Alaotra - Toamasina

Today will be a long travel day through stunning natural scenery on very beautiful and photographic paved roads, you make your way to Toamasina, to join the speed boat to Sainte Marie Island.

During this drive, you cross a myriad of villages and get acquainted with the traditional lifestyle of the Malagasy people. 420 km to enjoy pretty golden grasslands, amazingly abundant rice paddies, chimneyless long clay red houses and millions of roadside markets displaying a variety of colourful and gorgeous handicrafts, fruits and flowers.

Toamasina - Sainte Marie Island

At around 7 am we to continue northwards to Soanierana Ivongo approx. 3 hours by car. In Soanierana Ivongo we join the speed boat to Sainte Marie Island, departure of the speed boat at 11-00.

Whether you call it island of Sainte Marie, Nosy Boraha or Ile Ste Marie, it won’t change the fact that it is a unique tourism spot that resembles no other and it are, besides Nosy Be, one of the most visited islands of Madagascar.

Let’s enjoy it. After about a one-hour journey, you will arrive at the lodge or hotel. Discover this amazing place where you’ll stay for few days! Sainte Marie Island

The island of Sainte Marie and its small surrounding islands are a true jewel and very rich in terms of terrestrial and marine biodiversity. Nosy Boraha also offers a stunning landscape: majestic waterfalls, clear natural pools, preserved tropical forests and - of course - fine sand beaches that face the turquoise sea. Its seascape is equally impressive thanks to its coral reef and its waters filled with fish.

Today, depending on the flight schedule, you will proceed to your transfer to the airport and prepare yourself for a safe flight to Antananarivo. Departure time depends on the day of the week. Transfer in your hotel in Tana.

Akanin’ny nofy (Palmarium), known as the ‘nest of dreams’, this peaceful and relaxing haven is home to white sand beaches, forests, scattered orchids, strings of lakes and mangroves, all factors that have made the reserve to one of the most popular visits in the Canal des Pangalanes.

For years, Akanin’ny nofy (Palmarium) has been famous for its many very tame lemurs. Ten species of lemurs live in freedom in the reserve, as well as reptiles, amphibians and crocodiles.
