Overview

We invite you to spend some time in and around Marojejy National Park. This trek in the park along a trail that leads from the village of Manantenina into the rainforests eventually leads up to the summit of Marojejy itself (elevation 2132m). The trekking combines in itself The Mantella Trek, The Simpona Trek and The Marojejy Summit Trek.

Day by day

Sambava - Manantenina village

In 8-00 departure to Marojejy National Park (2 hours drive). The road follows the Lokoho river and cross vanilla plantation.

We arrive to Manantenina village where we start our 3nights/4days trekking in the Marojejy National Park.

Starting at 8-00;

Travel time - 2 hours drive, 4 hours walk;

Elevation difference + 150m;

Lunch and dinner will be served in the village;

Overnight in the village.

Manantenina village - Camp Mantella

From Manantenina village, we begin our trek to Camp Mantella.

We discover the lower wet primary forests. We will have the opportunity to observe several species of reptiles and amphibians, and birds including blue Coua and Helmet Vanga.

Arrival at Camp Mantella (450m altitude) installation to the camp and lunch.

In the afternoon, we discover the surroundings of Camp Mantella, visiting the Humbert waterfalls.

A night walk (about 19-00) in search of brown lemurs, greater dwarf lemur, fork-marked lemur and if lucky the aye-aye.

Dinner and night in hut at CAMP MANTELLA.

Camp Mantella - Camp Simpona

Breakfast and we will continue our trek towards the Camp Simpona.

Today we will have an excellent opportunity to observe the rare Silky sifaka, endemic to this rainforest.

We will dine at the camp Marojejy, and after a short pause for digestion, we follow our walk to Camp Simpona. The camp localize at 1250m altitude.

At sunset possibility to go for a night walk around the camp.

Dinner and night in hut at Camp Simpona.

Travel time - 6 hours walk;

Elevation difference + 800m;

Lunch and dinner  in the camp;

Night walk;

Overnight in the camp.

The summit of Marojejy

Early breakfast and the continuation of the trek for the ascension of the summit of Marojejy culminating at 2132m altitude.

We will enjoy the exceptional view on the Indian Ocean and the North of the Island and then walk down to the camp for lunch.

After lunch and a short siesta, we descend to camp Marojejy.

At sunset, possibility to go for a night walk around the camp.

Dinner and night in hut at camp Marojejy.

Early start;

Travel time - 3 hours of walking up, 3 hours walking down;

Elevation difference + 880m and then - 250m from the camp;

Lunch and dinner  in the camp;

Night walk;

Overnight in the camp.

Camp Marojejy - Sambava

Breakfast and we follow our walk crossing primary forest portions to the national park entrance.

Picnic-lunch and departure to Sambava. Arrival at your hotel.

An interesting combination is the succession with the descent of the river Lokoho until near the Indian Ocean Farahalana. It does not present any difficulties, it is an immense relaxation through the villages, away from the traditional tourist circuits. This can be done in 3-4 days with bivouacs and nights in the villages.
