Recognized in UNESCO's World Heritage classification, the Nosy Hara archipelago contains a total of 31 bird species and 18 terrestrial species, as well as exceptional underwater fauna and flora. The preservation of this archipelago is justified to preserve its biological wealth. During excursions at sea, it is possible to reach the island of Andatsara, one of the smallest islands of the Nosy Hara archipelago, but also Nosy Kolo, Hao Island, Goat Island and many more. The area is full of coral reefs. The richness of the seabed of the Baie du Courrier (Courrier Bay) will make you live unheard-of experiences. With luck, you will meet dolphins who will come to meet you to play with the furrows of the boat while doing pirouettes.
You will have to dive with a mask and a snorkel to discover the splendor of the coral reefs. Very soon, you will immerse yourself in the world of Némo and the multicolored corals will dazzle you. The islands of the archipelago of Nosy Hara are untouched by civilization. The beaches are deserted, turquoise waters ideal for swimming, relaxing and sunbathing in complete privacy. The nearest surrounding islands are accessible after one hour of navigation, but the journey time can vary according to the desired destination and depending on the intensity of the wind. The islands of the archipelago of Nosy Hara are full of magnificent shells that can be picked up by hand along the beaches. However, the crew unfortunately (or fortunately) cannot leave even with one of these countless shells. Small dead shellfish, like coffee beans, are tolerated if some tourists insist at length. The largest shellfish on the other hand, which can shelter crustaceans or mollusks, must be preserved.
In fact, the archipelago of Nosy Hara is a sacred archipelago, respected and venerated by the local populations, with its traditional rules (fady). This sacred character has its origin in the presence of many royal tombs throughout the archipelago, but especially Nosy Anjombavola (pronounced Andzombavoula) where it is strictly forbidden to sleep there. Only fish and crustaceans that you fish and hunt can be removed from this still savage nature. See here the positive side that reinforces the concern of preserving these sites.
During sea trips, it is possible to fish in a trap to try to catch various species of fish such as trevallies, barracudas, barras, serioles, chicken fish, skipjack, grouper, captains, groupers, Etc., all these fish being able to weigh about 50 kilos or more depending on the species.
Some of the islands in the Nosy Hara archipelago in Baie du Courrier secretly have nesting beaches for sea turtles, used to nesting and laying their eggs there. Have you ever seen sea turtles come out of the tumultuous waves and go up the beaches to lay hundreds of eggs? The show is amazing. The emergence of baby turtles, which point the tip of their beaks out of the sand to feel the temperature before running to the ocean, is exceptional. Babies turtles are tiny and weigh only a few grams at birth. They will reach colossal sizes in adulthood. Very few tourists access these sites because these islands are extremely remote and the crossing is both long and exhausting. Yet the show is unique but could soon disappear as the species is threatened today.
